Let us understand this with an example. Security guards are deployed in most buildings or homes. Their job is only to allow people who live in the building. The network was initially considered secure, but soon people started decoding the code quickly. So the system became insecure. The second network is WPA and WPA 2. This is a more secure development after WEP. WPA means WiFi Protected Access. This network requires a security key or password. So far, it has proved to be an aid in providing secure accessibility. WPA and WPA 2 can be used for personal use as well as commercial use.

Different software requires different methods to find a network security key. The steps you need to follow to find the key to network security on Windows are not the same as Mac or other software. We will discuss three software, Windows, Mac, and Android, to find the network security key.
Find The Network Security Key On Windows
- Launch your device.
- Now, click on the circle button at the bottom left of the screen. This button is called the Start button or the Windows button.
- The menu appears with two lists. The list on the right has an option – Control Panel. Click on this option.
- When you click it, a pop-up window appears. System and Security option is given below the option Network and Internet. And below this option, two options are written in blue. Select the first – View Network Status and Function, not the second.
- Look on the leftmost side of the window. A new menu appears below the Control Panel Home. Now, click on the first option. It is “Management of wireless networks.”
- Now look for the name of the wireless network concerned.
- After finding it, select the system. When you right-click on the system, a drop-down menu appears. Click Properties from that list.
- In features, a separate tab is provided with option protection. Click on it.
- Now, look for the Show Character Box. Check if it already has a tick. Tick if not already ticked.

- Click on the power button of the device to turn it on.
- Next, click ‘Go.’ It serves the same purpose as the start button in Windows. It is given on the top right side of the screen instead of the bottom.
- Select ‘Utilities’ in the menu that appears.
- Tick on the box provided for the show password.
- Next, you need to enter the admin password for your Mac book. This is for security purposes. After entering the password, click on Permission.
- The display screen shows your Mac Book’s network security key.

- Go to your Android device settings.
- In settings, look for a portable hotspot. If you can’t find it, type in the settings search box. When found, press on it.
- The following option is, “Set up a portable hotspot.” Click on this option.
- You will see that there is a box at the top of the defense. This box indicates the type of network usage. (Types of networks are discussed in the Introduction). In the case of Android, this would be WPA2. Below this is the password box. Password may appear as – ‘•’ or ‘*.’
- Lastly, click on the eye icon (something like this 👁️) next to the password box. The dots or the stars appearing previously will now change into a combination of digits and alphabets. This is the network security key of your Android device.

This is imperative. Therefore, this does not mean that they are available to one network and are not available to another system. It’s possible for everyone.

In light of the metaphor used in the introduction, it protects our house from unwanted guests. Due to this key, any network that you do not want to connect to yours will not be able to connect.
